The Billion
Dollar Project® Begins
Washington DC, May 1, 2008...Fred
DiUlus, the CEO and Founder of Global Academy Online, Inc., (the Academy), announced today the launch of the Billion Dollar
Project®. The project is an international philanthropic undertaking to spread knowledge acquisition to the third world
without cost to the recipients. To kick off the project, the Academy has committed to donating a million dollars of its own
in the form of services and human capital.
DiUlus originally created the Billion Dollar Project® over 30 years
ago. He envisioned it as an outreach to overcome poverty, hunger, and ignorance in the world. “I had no place to go
with the idea,” he said. “When I first put The Billion Dollar Project® label on it, I conceived we could harness
the power of technology to spread the rapid acquisition of knowledge. If we could do that I thought, we could do wonders never
imagined.” DiUlus was stuck with the reality that, “PC’s cost $10,000 a piece in 1977 and there was no Internet.
“My hope was that some day the dream would eventually come to fruition.”
Time and technology, it seems,
have finally caught up with DiUlus’ vision. For the past eleven years he has been involved with Internet education technology
and program development creating the Center for Ethics in Free Enterprise followed by Global Academy Online, Inc. five years
later. “The project just kind of ka-chinged into place,” he observes and points out the similarity between the
project’s objectives and what Confucius said – “If you give a man a fish, he eats for a day, but if you
show a man how to fish, he eats for a lifetime.”
According to project director, LaFonda Oliver-Bowen, the
VP of Communications for the Academy, “The Billion Dollar Project® offers individuals, educators, trainers, and
students the opportunity to volunteer their knowledge and a precious asset to deliver it – themselves. We want to free
people from the yoke of ignorance.”
Global Academy Online is known for its development of virtual universities
and online curriculum.
Interested individuals and organizations wanting to volunteer to work with The Billion
Dollar Project should contact the Academy directly. The project is non-profit and non-sectarian.
