Online Teacher Training in Applied Ethics Now Open to the Public

Washington DC, January 19,2009...A twelve year old 'not for profit' veteran training organization, the Center for Ethics in Free Enterprise (CEFE), is opening up its certified applied ethics training program to the general public. The training offered through the Center and its Applied Ethics Institute division leads to CEFE’s Certification in Applied Ethics. By opening the program up to the public, officials hope to provide more qualified specialists in a field where the demand is high but the number of qualified trainers is low.

CEFE’s annual surveys of professionals and educators indicate an increasing and ongoing demand for qualified ethics training specialists. 'Unfortunately', states LaFonda Oliver-Bowen, CEFE’s Director of Communications, 'many tapped to teach character and ethics within organizations are not up to it. Our program helps close the knowledge gap to make them better trainers.'

The advanced course management system permits applied ethics certification training practically anywhere in the world where Internet connections are made possible. According to Oliver-Bowen, training is 'tough, rigorous, and demanding.' The curriculum she points out, compresses a year's worth of work into 10 weeks.

The certification in applied ethics online evolved from the groundbreaking work in Organization Ethics undertaken by CEFE founder, Professor Fred DiUlus at the University of North Florida in the late 90’s. DiUlus, now the CEO of CEFE's corporate sponsor, the Washington, DC based Global Academy Online, is the author of The Practice of Ethics, an applied ethics blueprint that provided the genesis for the online delivery of the program.

Admission to CEFE’s Applied Ethics Certification training requires at a minimum full time employment with at least one year in a supervisory or management position. 'Candidates' DiUlus points out, 'should possess a strong and driving desire to train, teach, and guide others in character and ethics development.'

The biggest hurdle for individuals who have never studied online, DiUlus says, is not the curriculum, but learning how to take instruction online. 'The first course they will take in the certification program will be in how to navigate and take full advantage of online classes.' CEFE identifies the required course as 'Online Study 101'.

The next scheduled CEFE Applied Ethics Certification training begins February 1st.
